Dhaka: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recognized Bangladesh spinner Nishita Akter Nishi as one of the promising young talents to watch in the upcoming ODI Cricket World Cup. Nishi, who has already made a mark in the ICC Women's U19 World Cup for Bangladesh earlier this year, is set to make her World Cup debut next month at the age of 17.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ICC highlighted Nishita's potential, noting her impressive skills as an off-spinner. She first gained attention when she earned two caps at the age of 15 against Pakistan in 2023. The ICC specifically mentioned her ability to turn the ball significantly, recalling a standout moment when she dismissed West Indies' Jahzara Claxton by hitting the top of her middle stump during the U19 World Cup.
In addition to Nishita, the ICC has identified other young prospects from various countries who are expected to shine at the World Cup. These players include Georgia Voll from Australia, Alice Capsey from England, Flora Devonshire from New Zealand, Eyman Fatima from Pakistan, Dewmi Vihanga from Sri Lanka, Annerie Dercksen from South Africa, and Kranti Gaud from India.
The ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, hosted in India and Sri Lanka, will commence on 30 September, with the final scheduled for 2 November.
