Chandpur: Nine shop owners were fined a total of Taka 98,000 today for storing expired food and medicines in Faridganj upazila of the district. Assistant Director of the District Office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Abdullah Al Imran, conducted a drive at Rupsha Bazar in the afternoon with assistance from a joint forces team.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the operation, Rajdhani Bakery and Rajshahi Bakery were each fined Taka 30,000 for manufacturing food items without production and expiry dates. M/S Debinath Pharmacy and Bithi Pharmacy were fined Taka 10,000 and Taka 5,000, respectively, for storing expired medicines. Zara Cosmetics faced a fine of Taka 5,000 for storing expired cosmetics, and an additional Taka 5,000 for not using proper product packaging. Bismillah Mishtanna Bhandar and Haji Store were each fined Taka 5,000 for not displaying price lists, while Mayer Doa Meat Shop was fined Taka 3,000.
The shop owners pledged not to repeat such irregularities in the future. As part of regular monitoring, other establishments were inspected, and leaflets were distributed to raise public awareness. District Sanitary Inspector Md Nazrul Islam and a team from the joint forces provided overall support during the operation. The official said such drives will continue in the public interest.
