Chattogram: None of the nine students from five colleges under the Chattogram Education Board managed to pass the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations this year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chattogram Education Board Controller of Examinations Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury confirmed the statistics during a press briefing at the board auditorium.
“Two students from Meron Sun College in the Chandgaon area, one candidate from Merit Bangladesh College, three candidates from Saraipara City Corporation College in Pahartali, one candidate from Chakaria College in Chakaria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district, and two candidates from Chattogram Zilla College in the Panchlaish area appeared for the examinations, but none succeeded,” stated the Chattogram Education Board. The Controller of Examinations announced that appropriate measures will be taken against the five colleges with a zero pass rate.
This year, 102,970 students from 307 colleges participated in the examinations, with 53,560 students, including 26,218 males and 27,342 females, passing. The HSC and equivalent examinations were conducted from June 26 to August 19, 2025. The Chattogram Education Board’s overall pass rate was 52.57 percent, with 6,097 students achieving a GPA-5.
Comparatively, both the overall pass rate and the number of GPA-5 holders have decreased from the previous year. Last year, the pass rate was 70.32 percent, with 10,269 students securing GPA-5. This year’s figures show a reduction of 17.75 percentage points in the pass rate and a decrease of approximately 4,000 in GPA-5 achievers.
Female students outperformed their male counterparts in both pass rate and GPA-5 achievements under the board this year. The pass rate for male students was 48.95 percent, while female students achieved a higher rate of 55.49 percent. The pass rates for different groups were: Science Group- 78.75 percent, Business Education Group- 55.30 percent, and Humanities Group- 37.08 percent.
