Dhaka: Nine children have tragically died from measles and similar symptoms in the country within the 24-hour period ending at 8:00 am on Tuesday, as reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to United News of Bangladesh, of the nine new fatalities, three were confirmed to be measles-related, while the remaining six were classified as suspected cases of the disease. This latest development brings the total number of confirmed measles-related deaths to 68, with an additional 356 suspected deaths since March 15.
DGHS data further reveals that 1,105 suspected measles cases were recorded in the same 24-hour timeframe, increasing the total count of such cases to 51,567. In addition, there were 87 new confirmed measles infections reported, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 7,024.
Since the outbreak began on March 15, a total of 36,881 suspected measles patients have required hospitalization. Of these, 32,877 have successfully recovered from the illness, highlighting the ongoing impact and strain on healthcare resources.
