Dhaka: Gulshan Thana police have arrested nine drug traders and seized foreign liquor worth over Tk 67 lakh during a raid in the capital's Gulshan area. The arrestees are Syed Asif, 24, Md. Rakib Khan, 20, Tanvir Ahmed, 28, Nayon Chakraborty, 28, Md. Bellal Hawlader, 40, Md. Zahirul Islam, 33, Sagor Nokrek, 27, Saiful Islam Rocky, 34, and Mehedi Hasan Shikder, 40.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media and Public Relations Division), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the incident. Police conducted the operation at Bliss Art Lounge Ltd. Restaurant and Bar on South Gulshan Avenue at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Gulshan Thana sources revealed that the restaurant had permission to sell only five local liquor brands from Carew and Company but was illegally stocking and selling various foreign brands. During the raid, police recovered 866 bottles of foreign liquor worth Tk 67.91 lakh and apprehended the nine individuals involved.
A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act with Gulshan Police Station, and legal action against the arrestees is underway, as stated in the release.
