Bhola: Industries Adviser Dr Adilur Rahman Khan has announced the government's plan to establish a modern urea fertilizer factory in Bhola, aiming to capitalize on the district's abundant gas reserves. The announcement was made following his inspection of two proposed sites near Ferighat in Bhola Sadar Upazila this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Khan stated that a feasibility study for the project is already in progress. Highlighting the significance of Bhola's gas reserves, he remarked, "There is a huge amount of gas in Bhola. No other district in the country has such a large reserve. We want to use this gas for national development and for strengthening the agriculture sector."
Dr Khan emphasized that should the feasibility study produce favorable results, the government is prepared to advance the project swiftly. Notably, he mentioned that land acquisition might not be required, which could substantially lower project costs and expedite implementation.
The visit was also attended by Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Dr Mohammad Fouzul Kabir Khan and Commerce, Textiles and Jute Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin. Dr Khan explained that the team had reviewed two potential sites, and a final decision would be based on factors such as suitability, transportation facilities, river routes, and the availability of electricity and gas infrastructure.
Senior officials from the three ministries, along with the Deputy Commissioner and other relevant officials, were present during the site inspections.
