Gazipur: Newly appointed Administrator of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Shawkat Hossain Sarkar today unveiled a 180-day action plan aimed at accelerating the city’s development. He announced the plan after assuming office at the City Hall and holding meetings with officials, including a virtual discussion with the Local Government Secretary.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the action plan focuses on a variety of initiatives to improve the city’s infrastructure and address pressing urban challenges. To ease traffic congestion, Shawkat Hossain Sarkar disclosed that the foundation stone of a flyover over the Joydebpur rail crossing would be laid within six months. This development is expected to significantly streamline traffic flow in the area. Furthermore, the construction of two bridges in Kashimpur is set to commence, which will enhance connectivity with Savar and Ashulia. The plan also includes the development of alternative roads linking Gazipur with Dhaka, aiming to improve overall accessibility and reduce travel times.
In addressing environmental concerns, the administrator emphasized the urgent excavation of 19 canals across the metropolitan area. This initiative seeks to mitigate water logging and reduce mosquito breeding, thereby improving the urban environment. Additionally, he pledged to transform Gazipur into a green and clean city by freeing sidewalks from illegal occupation, strengthening waste management, removing unauthorized cable lines, and enhancing street lighting.
Shawkat Hossain Sarkar also announced stringent measures against terrorism, extortion, and juvenile gangs. In a bid to engage youth in constructive activities, the plan includes establishing a playground and a children’s park in each of the city’s 57 wards. This initiative aims to provide safe and recreational spaces for the city’s younger population.
Moreover, the administrator vowed zero tolerance against corruption, stressing that coordinated efforts would be undertaken to establish accountable governance and improve civic services. The comprehensive 180-day action plan reflects a commitment to fostering a sustainable and thriving urban environment in Gazipur.
