Dhaka:The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) is set to introduce four new textbooks for primary and secondary levels in the 2027 academic year, aiming to shift students away from rote-learning towards a more skill-based education.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the new textbooks, developed by the NCTB, are designed to promote students' physical and mental development, instill moral values, nurture creative thinking, and enhance practical skills. The textbooks include "Sports" and "Culture of Bangladesh" for Class-IV, and "Learning with Happiness" and "My Technical Education" for Class-VI.

These educational materials reflect the vision of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who has guided the initiative as part of a broader effort to reform the education sector. The Prime Minister's Adviser for Education, Mahdi Amin, emphasized that the new approach seeks to create an education system that is joyful and rooted in moral values, while fostering employment opportunities.

The NCTB has formed a team, including experts and educators, to implement these changes. The new textbooks are expected to receive final approval tomorrow during a meeting of the National Curriculum Coordination Committee. Approximately 1.5 crore copies will be printed once approved, with completion expected by December 15.

The textbooks cover a range of topics. "Sports" encourages Class-IV students to adopt healthy lifestyles through sports and self-defense techniques, while "Culture of Bangladesh" introduces them to the country's rich heritage. "Learning with Happiness" for Class-VI focuses on a fear-free, enjoyable education, and "My Technical Education" aims to develop problem-solving skills through practical learning.

These initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy to make education more relevant and engaging for students, providing them with the skills needed for future challenges.
