Chandpur: The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (NCRP) today conducted a series of drives at Chandpur’s largest hilsa landing station, Boro Station Mach (Fish) Ghat, in a bid to control unreasonable price hikes and uphold consumer rights. NCRP Assistant Director Abdullah Al Imran spearheaded the operation, which included a thorough examination of the traders’ documents and the issuance of warnings.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the drive was supported by the District Fisheries Officer, officials from the Agriculture Marketing Department, the sanitary inspector, and members of Ansar. The collaborative effort aimed to monitor market irregularities and ensure fair pricing for consumers.

Assistant Director Imran emphasized that the operation focused on identifying any deliberate market manipulation or creation of artificial shortages. He warned traders that such practices would lead to legal consequences. In addition to monitoring the hilsa trade, two local businesses were fined a total of Tk 10,000 for unhygienic food preparation and unauthorized storage of fuel and gas.
