Debhata:Satkhira The National Citizen Party (NCP) has called for immediate justice for those involved in the lynching of a young man in Debhata, Satkhira, after he was accused of hurting religious sentiments. The party emphasized the need for accountability from authorities following a second attack on Wahiduzzaman Shamim while he was hospitalized, highlighting a failure in ensuring his safety.

According to United News of Bangladesh, tension rose in Debhata on October 13 when an audio clip alleging Shamim hurt religious sentiments went viral. Shamim was initially beaten, rescued by police, and admitted to the Upazila Health Complex. However, he was attacked again in the hospital later that night by an angry crowd.

The NCP alleged that Qari Fazlul Haque Amini led the assault, accompanied by local Jubo Dal activist Sadikul Islam and Mohammad Najmul from the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. The party questioned the safety of citizens if hospitals cannot provide refuge, stressing that the responsibility of trying allegations lies with the state and justice system, not individuals or groups.

The NCP demanded a thorough investigation into the security lapses at the hospital and insisted that those involved in both attacks be identified and brought to justice. The party also emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of the allegations against Shamim and understanding his mental health condition, as claimed by his family.

Furthermore, the NCP called for an impartial probe into the actions of those accused of inciting the violence, organizing the crowd, or contributing to the attack. The party underscored the necessity for clear state policies against communal incitement and blasphemy, stressing that justice should not be left to mob rule.
