Dhaka: The National Citizen Party (NCP) on Monday strongly condemned and protested the attack on Ariful Islam, the 10-party alliance candidate in Dhaka-18 and senior joint convener of the party. The assault occurred in the Dumni Nurpara area under Khilkhet police station on Monday morning while Ariful Islam was visiting an orphanage and conducting election campaigning.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the NCP stated in a press release that the attack was perpetrated by a group of miscreants led by local BNP leader Didar Molla. The incident left at least two alliance activists seriously injured, raising concerns about the safety of political candidates and their supporters.

The NCP described the use of violence in electoral competition as a grave threat to democracy. They demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the attack. Furthermore, the party urged law enforcement agencies to ensure the security of candidates in election areas to prevent such incidents in the future.
