Accra:The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting online VAT returns for the July-September 2026 tax periods to October 25. This allows taxpayers to file their returns without incurring interest or penalties.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the extension was announced in a notification, citing the need for administrative adjustments to the electronic VAT (eVAT) system. These adjustments follow changes to the VAT return submission requirements under the 2026-27 national budget.
Recent amendments to the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, now require taxpayers to submit VAT returns after the completion of each tax period, instead of after every three tax periods as was previously the case. The NBR has indicated that the eVAT system requires administrative reforms to implement these revised provisions.
Using its authority under Section 64(2) of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, the revenue authority decided to extend the deadline in the public interest.
