Dhamrai: The Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (West) has uncovered a significant VAT evasion amounting to Tk 3.28 crore by Xinlian Electronics Technology Bangladesh Co Ltd, an electronics manufacturer operating in Dhamrai. The discovery was made following a tip-off, leading to a raid by a preventive team at the company's facility in Nabagram, Dhamrai, on September 17.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the company, which is registered as a lithium battery manufacturer, was involved in the local manufacturing of batteries while also storing imported mobile chargers, branded headphones, and Bluetooth headphones for distribution. A thorough review of the seized documents revealed that the company had concealed sales worth Tk 14,56,18,507, resulting in VAT evasion of Tk 1,89,85,892.
Further investigations disclosed that Xinlian Electronics Technology Bangladesh Co Ltd had also hidden information related to purchases of goods and raw materials valued at Tk 15,22,08,775. This concealment led to an additional VAT evasion of Tk 1,38,37,161. The Commissionerate has stated that further legal action will be pursued in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations to recover the government dues.
