Daulatpur:The quiet village of Daulatpur in Cumilla, where National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam found love, faced personal struggles, and created some of his memorable literary works, still echoes with the legacy of his life and creativity.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the historic village remains a largely untapped cultural treasure, awaiting sustained initiatives to preserve the poet's memories and inspire younger generations to explore his literary heritage. Located about 45 kilometers from Cumilla city, Daulatpur is closely associated with the life of the rebel poet, whose brief stay there in 1921 marked a significant chapter in his literary journey.

Nazrul arrived in Cumilla on April 3, 1921, and traveled to Daulatpur on April 6 at the invitation of his friend Ali Akbar Khan. The poet stayed there for around 73 days, composing 160 songs and 120 poems during the period, though local records note his stay as 71 days. The influence of Daulatpur's natural surroundings and the company of its people had a profound impact on Nazrul.

The village holds a special place in Bengali literature, known locally as 'Kabitirtha Daulatpur' (Daulatpur, the pilgrimage site of poetry). It was in Daulatpur that Nazrul met Syeda Nargis Ara Khanam, and their relationship developed into a romance, adding emotional depth to his creative world. The village still honors the poet with a gateway bearing his name and annual programs marking his birth anniversary.

Despite these commemorations, many young residents only know Nazrul within a limited scope. Students like Tahia Hafsa and Samiumm Mubin express a desire to learn more about him beyond textbooks. They suggest that schools should incorporate more Nazrul-related activities and resources.

Local cultural figures emphasize the need for more initiatives to engage the youth with Nazrul's works. Mohammad Nurul Islam, director of the Daulatpur Nargis-Nazrul Shilpakala Academy, notes the lack of adequate support for cultural activities related to the poet. Mohammad Jahangir Alam Imrul and Kazi Mahtab Sumon highlight the importance of preserving Nazrul's legacy through regular cultural programs and educational resources.

The upazila administration has taken steps to preserve Nazrul's heritage, including publishing a book titled 'Nazrul in Daulatpur'. They are also exploring further initiatives to protect the village's historical legacy and preserve sites associated with the poet.

While the historical significance of Nazrul's time in Daulatpur is acknowledged, integrating this legacy into the cultural life of the younger generation remains a challenge. With proper conservation, research expansion, and support for cultural organizations, Daulatpur's heritage could evolve into a vibrant cultural tradition, inspiring future generations with Nazrul's message of humanity, equality, love, and rebellion.
