Dhaka: Prime Minister's Political Adviser and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today emphasized the enduring significance of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, describing him as the poet of awakening who remains relevant across different eras.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Natore Zila Parishad at its auditorium to commemorate Nazrul Year. He highlighted how the nation continually draws lessons in justice from Nazrul's literary works. Rizvi noted that the poet's songs have inspired the nation during pivotal moments, including the movements of 1947, 1971, and even the recent events of 2024.
Rizvi elaborated on Nazrul's multifaceted contributions, not only as the "Rebel Poet" but also as a poet of love, spirituality, and humanity. He stressed the importance of spreading Nazrul's ideals beyond urban centers to reach every village, underscoring the Prime Minister's decision to declare the observance of Nazrul Year as a testament to this vision.
Addressing political issues, Rizvi criticized opposition parties for failing to acknowledge the BNP government's achievements. He claimed that since the BNP took office, there have been no reports of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, or stock market scandals over the recent months. He contrasted the present situation with the past, where farmers faced dire conditions, asserting that they now receive fair prices for jute and other agricultural products.
Rizvi assured that the BNP would fulfill its electoral promises, noting that agricultural loans have been waived, canal excavation projects initiated, and the Family Card and Farmers Card programmes launched. He added that the government is considering measures to reopen closed industrial establishments.
Jatiya Sangsad Whip M. Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, also speaking at the event, praised Nazrul's influence, stating that his works provide the language to protest against injustice. He commended the Prime Minister for recognizing the National Poet's contributions.
The event was chaired by Md. Rahim Newaz, Administrator of the Natore Zila Parishad, and included discussions by Nazrul researcher Dr. Munshi Abu Saif and Associate Professors Md. Golam Mostafa and others on Nazrul's literature and philosophy. The gathering was attended by local administrative officials and BNP leaders.
