Dhaka: Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan has highlighted the shared inclusive vision of national identity exhibited by National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. He emphasized that their philosophies transcended religious, ethnic, and social divisions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the JU VC made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a discussion titled "The Working Lives of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in the Year of Nazrul." The event was held at the Dr Muhammad Enamul Haque Bhaban of Bangla Academy in the capital. It was jointly organized by the World Wide Writers Association and International Publishing House.
Professor Kamrul Ahsan elaborated on the concepts of identity promoted by Nazrul and Ziaur Rahman, noting that they were based on inclusion. He encouraged conduct that fosters peace among individuals. Recalling Ziaur Rahman's role in arranging Nazrul's burial, the VC highlighted Zia's initiative to have the National Poet buried beside the Central Mosque of Dhaka University, reflecting Zia's deep admiration for Nazrul.
In the context of the country's recent political landscape, Professor Kamrul Ahsan quoted BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who stated on August 5 that victory is truly glorious when the defeated are safe with the victors. The VC suggested that Tarique Rahman's statement draws from his father's legacy and experiences, aiming for an inclusive and liveable Bangladesh for all.
