Dhaka:A brilliant half-century from Nayeem Hasan steered Bangladesh to 142 all out in the second innings, setting West Indies a target of 170 for victory in the first Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the pitch offered significant turn and bounce, making the target challenging for any side in the fourth innings. Nayeem Hasan scored 52 runs, leading Bangladesh's batting effort after the hosts resumed Day 4 at a precarious 79-6 with a 106-run lead.

Nayeem contributed most of the 64 runs Bangladesh added on Day 4 before being bowled out. His overnight partner, Jaker Ali Anik, was dismissed for 22 in the first over of the day, giving West Indies control of the game. Despite this, Nayeem guided the lower order to extend the lead past 150 against the sharp spin bowling of Jomel Warrican and Roston Chase.

Chase dropped Nayeem when he was on 29, but Nayeem went on to secure his maiden half-century off 87 balls. He was eventually dismissed by Chase for 5-36, as he miscued a shot to long-on. Warrican also delivered a strong performance, following his 5-53 with 4-63 in Bangladesh's second innings.

West Indies reached 8 for no loss at lunch after openers John Campbell and Brandon King survived some close calls.
