Galle: Offspinner Nayeem Hasan claimed 5-121 as Bangladesh took a 10-run lead after wrapping up Sri Lanka for 485 in the first innings of the first cricket Test today at Galle International Cricket Stadium. His fourth Test five-wicket haul included the key wicket of Kamindu Mendis, who looked set to earn Sri Lanka a lead on the day of the Test.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nayeem produced a beauty to remove Mendis for 87, after which Sri Lanka was able to survive just four overs before conceding the lead. Prior to this, Hasan Mahmud got rid of Milan Rathnayake for 39, ending the 84-run partnership between him and Mendis. Mahmud ended with 3-74, while Taijul Islam and Mominul Haque took one wicket each.
Earlier in the day, opener Pathum Nissanka provided Sri Lanka with a solid foundation through a score of 187, while Dinesh Chandimal contributed with 54 runs. Bangladesh had been bundled out for 495 in its first innings, thanks to veteran Mushfiqur Rahim’s 163 and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 148, with Liton Das adding 90.
