Khulna: The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2025 has commenced in Khulna city with a formal inauguration by the Chief Executive Officer of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Laskar Tajul Islam, at the Amirabanu Begum Urban Maternity Centre.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the campaign involves the participation of 1,420 volunteers working diligently across 710 centers throughout the city. The initiative aims to administer Vitamin A Plus capsules to at least 122,420 children within the 31 wards under the KCC jurisdiction. Specifically, 14,600 children aged 6-11 months will receive blue Vitamin-A plus capsules, while 107,820 children aged 12-59 months will be given red Vitamin A plus capsules.
During the inauguration, Laskar Tajul Islam highlighted the critical role of Vitamin-A plus capsules in fostering children’s physical and mental development. He emphasized that the campaign is designed to improve children’s lives, addressing health issues stemming from Vitamin A deficiency. He called for collective efforts and a sense of responsibility from all stakeholders to ensure the campaign’s success for the benefit of future generations.
Furthermore, Laskar Tajul Islam informed attendees that Vitamin A is naturally found in leafy green vegetables like water spinach. He urged volunteers to educate parents on preventing malnutrition-related blindness and maintaining a balanced diet rich in Vitamin A.
Prominent figures such as KCC secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, assistant director of the divisional health department Dr. Aparna Bishwas, and KCC’s chief health officer Dr. Sharif Shammiul Islam also spoke at the inauguration. The event was organized by KCC’s health department, with acting chief engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan and medical officer of the civil surgeon office Dr. Dolena Khatun in attendance.
