President and chancellor of the national university mirza fakhrul islam alamgir emphasized the necessity of aligning the university's curriculum with both domestic and international job market demands to tackle the challenges posed by the fourth industrial revolution and to mitigate unnecessary unemployment. he made these remarks during a meeting at bangabhaban when a delegation from the national university:hancellor Prof Dr A S M Amanullah, paid him a courtesy visit.
According to United News of Bangladesh, during the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor briefed the President on the university's initiatives towards employment-oriented education, curriculum reforms, and overall academic activities. He also sought the President's support in enhancing the dignity, professional opportunities, and welfare facilities for university teachers.
The President assured the delegation of his support, pointing out that the country's education system had suffered under previous governance due to an artificial increase in the pass rate. He stated that the current government is committed to enhancing the quality of education at the National University, developing skilled human resources, and bolstering teachers' capacities.
Recognizing the demands of labor markets in developed countries, the President advocated for the introduction of short courses lasting six months to a year in healthcare, allied healthcare, technical and further education (TAFE), and ICT. Additionally, he suggested incorporating technology and technical education into the National University's offerings. Such programs, he noted, would help create a workforce of internationally competitive skilled workers and boost overseas employment opportunities.
Furthermore, the President highlighted the importance of gradually establishing performing arts colleges in every district across the country. The Vice-Chancellor extended a formal invitation to the President, in his capacity as Chancellor, to attend the proposed convocation of the National University, which the President accepted, assuring his attendance.
The meeting was attended by the President's relevant secretaries, along with the university's pro-vice-chancellor, registrar, and treasurer.
