National Mourning Day observed in Khulna

Various government, semi-government, autonomous

bodies, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations and educational

institutions here today observed the National Mourning Day and 48th martydom

anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a

befitting manner.

Khulna City and District units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front-

organisations and different other political parties also observed various

programmes marking the day.

The day began through hoisting of national flag at half-mast in all

government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings.

Government and semi-government organisations placed wreaths at the monument

of Bangabandhu on Khulna Deputy Commissioner Office premises around 8am.

Mourning rally has brought out in the city followed by discussion meeting,

doa mahfil.

Freedom Fighters, government high officials and leaders of civil society,

among others, also placed wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu at the same

place.

Distribution of food among the destitute and screening of film on life and

works of Bangabandhu and special milad mahfils and prayers at all religious

institutions were also held.

Besides, competitions on painting, essay writing, one-minute video

documentary on ‘Amar Chokhe Bangabandhu,’ (Bangabandhu in my eyes),

discussions focusing the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

and national history were arranged in the educational institutions and other

places.

Khulna District Administration organised a discussion meeting while

Directorate of Youth Development distributed prize among the winners of

essay, Art, video documentation and Poem recitation competition and

distributed cheques among freedom fighters at Khulna Shilpakala Academy

auditorium.

State Minister of Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian addressed the

programme as the chief guest while Khulna City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleqe

addressed it as special guests. Khulna divisional Commissioner Helal Mahmud

Sharif chaired the discussion meeting while Deputy Commissioner Khondokar

Yasir Arefin, delivered the welcome speech.

Besides, Khulna district administration arranged the holy Quran recitation

and distributed foodstuff and other ingredients to orphanages of different

madrasas and orphanage institutions.

Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna District Information Office, Press

Information Department (PID), Islamic Foundation, Khulna WASA, OZOPADICO,

Sundarban Gas Company Ltd, Khulna Betar, Khulna Civil Surgeon Office, Khulna

University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET),

Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), Swadhinata Sangbadik

(Journalists) Forum, Mongla Port Authority (MPA), Deputy Inspector General of

Police (DIG) of Khulna Range, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and other

organisations observed same programmes separately marking the day.

On the occasion, the organisations also planted tree saplings on their

respective places.

The city and district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organisations

also observed various programmes marking the day here and at upazila

headquarters in a befitting manner.

The programmes begun with hoisting of national flags and black flags all the

party offices in the city and district, wearing of black badges, placing

wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, distribution of food among the

distressed people, milad mahfils and discussion meetings on life and works of

Bangabandhu.

The upazila administrations also observed the day through similar programmes

in the nine upazilas in the district.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police administrations

took adequate measures to maintain law and order on the day.
