Dhaka: BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel has expressed optimism that the upcoming general election in the country will take place at the beginning of next year, following the Chief Adviser’s assurance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel made this statement during the installation ceremony of the newly established full ad-hoc committee of Mymensigh South Zila BNP at an NGO auditorium. The event was moderated by the Member Secretary of the newly formed committee, Rokonuzzaman Sarkar Rokon, with speeches from Mymensigh Divisional Organizing Secretary of BNP Shariful Alam, and Assistant Organizing Secretaries Wares Ali Mamun and Abu Wahab Akond.

The BNP Joint Secretary General emphasized that the nation is eagerly awaiting a free, fair, and credible election. He highlighted the anticipation among the young generation, who have been deprived of voting rights for the past 16 years, and their desire to participate in the electoral process. He stressed the necessity for the interim government to implement minimal reforms promptly before the election, allowing the elected government to undertake comprehensive reforms. He noted that without an elected and democratic government, it is challenging to ensure the rule of law, economic stability, and a conducive environment for investment.

Sohel also mentioned that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is keeping track of all the party units. On June 5, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, following instructions from Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, approved the formation of the committee, with Md Zakir Hossain Khan Babul appointed as the convener of the 43-member committee.
