Dhaka:National Bank Limited has started accepting applications from depositors for withdrawing their money, with withdrawals to be permitted according to customers' demand starting October 15.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision follows concerns about the bank's liquidity situation and its ability to satisfy the withdrawal demands of depositors. Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director and Spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank, confirmed the development.
Previously, officials from National Bank, including Chairman Melita Mehezeen and Acting Managing Director Zahidul Haque, met with the Governor of Bangladesh Bank on October 8 to discuss the bank's overall condition. During the meeting, the Governor emphasized that the central bank would not provide assistance by printing money. Instead, National Bank would need to secure funds by borrowing from other banks to fulfill depositors' requests.
This initiative aims to offer depositors the opportunity to access their funds as needed while National Bank addresses its liquidity issues.
