Narayanganj: Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today emphasized the enduring remembrance of the children and women martyred during the student-led July Uprising in 2024, which resulted in the stepping down of former leader Sheikh Hasina.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sharmeen made her remarks following visits to the homes of July martyrs Riya Gop, a child who was shot dead in Nayamati, and Sumaiya, a housewife killed in the Mizmiji area of Siddhirganj, Narayanganj city. She stressed that the memory of the women and children who sacrificed their lives during the uprising would not be allowed to fade away.
Sharmeen, who also serves as the women and children affairs adviser, stated, “Their stories will be compiled and preserved. They will not be forgotten.” She further assured that the state would ensure the rights of those martyred in the uprising, highlighting that Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah is already working toward this goal.
She added, “I have spoken to the families to understand their struggles and challenges. As part of the Ministry of Social Welfare, I will do everything within my power to support them.” Several senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Narayanganj, were present during the visit.
