Dhaka: Jahangir Alam Shanto, a resident of Narsingdi, has secured first place nationwide in the 2025-26 admission test for government and private medical and dental colleges, emerging at the top among 120,440 candidates.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, results published on December 14 revealed that Shanto scored 91.25 marks, the highest in the country, while the overall pass rate stood at 66.57 percent. He sat for the examination at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College centre in Dhaka.

Hailing from Khamarerchar village in Narayanpur Union under Belabo upazila, Shanto comes from a lower middle-income family. He is the eldest of three siblings, with his father Md Mizanur Rahman running a small grocery shop and his mother Ferdousi Begum being a homemaker.

Reflecting on his achievement, Shanto mentioned that he initially aspired to become an engineer but later decided to pursue medicine while preparing for the admission test. “As I continued my preparation, my confidence grew. Regular study and online coaching helped me a lot. Even after being affected by dengue during the preparation period, I did not give up,” he said.

He credited his success to his parents’ prayers, teachers’ guidance, and sustained hard work. “Consistent preparation over a long period is essential to perform well in the medical admission test,” he added. Shanto expressed his aim to specialise in cancer treatment or oncology after completing his medical studies, stating, “The medical profession offers a direct way to serve people. My goal is to work for the underprivileged and disadvantaged sections of society.”

Expressing pride in his son’s achievement, his father stated, “I have educated my children with the income from a small grocery shop. Shanto has been meritorious and calm since childhood. We hope he will dedicate his life to serving humanity.” His mother noted that Shanto received scholarships at the primary level and achieved Golden GPA-5 in both SSC and HSC examinations. “We have always expected the best from him,” she said.

Moniruzzaman, headmaster of Baraicha Residential Model High School, where Shanto completed his SSC in 2023 with a Golden GPA-5, remarked that the achievement was a matter of pride for the institution. “We hope he will illuminate society through his work,” he added. Shanto completed his primary education at Baraicha Oxford Academy, passed SSC from Baraicha Residential Model High School, and later achieved a Golden GPA-5 in HSC from Tejgaon Government Science College.
