Narsingdi: Stopovers for the intercity trains Mohanagar Provati, Mohanagar Godhuli, and Upaban Express (Down) were officially inaugurated at Narsingdi Railway Station on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet railway routes. Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rashed Hossain Chowdhury led the inauguration of the new stopovers around 9:30 am today at the station.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy Commissioner welcomed the train directors and locomotive masters with flowers upon the arrival of the trains. The Narsingdi Railway Passenger Rights Forum extended greetings to passengers with flowers and distributed sweets on the occasion.
Railway officials reported that with the addition of these three stopovers, the total number of intercity trains stopping at the station has now increased to eight. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rashed Hossain Chowdhury highlighted Narsingdi’s significance in agriculture, industry, and education, noting its prominent wholesale cloth markets of Shekherchar and Baburhat. Despite this, the district previously lacked adequate intercity train stopovers connecting it with other parts of the country like Chattogram and Sylhet. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Railways for acknowledging the demand and approving the stopovers, which will greatly benefit the people of the district.
Md. Amzad Jewel, President of the Narsingdi Railway Passenger Rights Forum, mentioned that the Ministry approved the stopovers following a formal request from the forum. The new stops are anticipated to ease long-standing travel difficulties faced by thousands of passengers.
The inauguration event was attended by Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Station Master of Narsingdi Railway Station, Zahidul Islam, Sub-Inspector of the Railway Police Outpost, and other dignitaries.
