Dhaka: National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has made a significant call for action, urging individuals from all sectors of society in Bangladesh to become actively involved in politics. He emphasized that political engagement should not remain exclusive to the wealthy and influential but should be embraced by everyday citizens who aspire to bring about national change.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid delivered this message via a video statement, asserting that those with dreams of transforming the nation must take an active role in the political arena. He highlighted the intrinsic link between politics and governance, stating that politics directly influences how a country is governed and its future direction. He stressed the importance of ordinary people engaging in politics to ensure it serves the common interest.

Nahid reflected on the historic events of August 5, 2024, when citizens, including students, entered the National Parliament area with aspirations of establishing an egalitarian and democratic Bangladesh. Although the dream remains unfulfilled, Nahid noted that the struggle continues. He paid homage to the martyrs of that uprising, acknowledging the pivotal role of ordinary citizens and young students in driving the movement for change.

Emphasizing the National Parliament's role as the country's guiding institution, Nahid discussed the significance of reclaiming parliament for public representation. He deemed the forthcoming parliament as potentially the most important in Bangladesh's history, tasked with implementing reforms specified in the 'July Charter' through a newly proposed Reform Council.

Nahid called for leadership devoid of corruption, advocating for genuine representatives who possess honesty, patriotism, and vision. He encouraged professionals from diverse sectors, including education, entrepreneurship, women's rights, environmentalism, labor, and agriculture, to engage in the policymaking process, stressing the need for their expertise and ideas in parliament.

He also appealed to expatriate Bangladeshis to return and contribute their international experiences to national politics. Reaffirming his dedication to the July Charter, Nahid insisted on its legal foundation as a prerequisite for any election, advocating for continued reform within parliament through democratic debate and dialogue.

Nahid concluded by underscoring the need for politics to be rooted in courage, honesty, and public trust, assuring that the NCP would support those willing to step forward. He announced the party's commitment to nominating candidates dedicated to building a just and democratic Bangladesh, with the election symbol of 'Shapla Kali' representing purity and renewal.
