Posts: The adviser made this call in separate meetings with the representatives of mobile phone operators Robi and Grameenphone at his office in Posts and Telecommunications Division, said a ministry press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid Islam, who also serves as Adviser of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, mentioned that the interim government was undergoing a transition period. He emphasized that successfully navigating this phase could lead to new opportunities for the country, stating, “If the government can overcome this successfully, the country will turn around and new doors of possibilities will open.” However, he cautioned, “If it is not possible then the country will go backwards.”
The adviser highlighted that the movement’s focus on employment necessitates that job creation remains the interim government’s primary objective. He urged mobile phone operators to consider reducing mobile call rates and offering unlimited internet packages, in response to the inter
ests and demands of the youth.
Nahid Islam stressed that it was an opportune time to work in Bangladesh, as the interim government, backed by public support, is keen on initiatives that benefit the nation and its people. Furthermore, he assured that efforts to enhance the telecommunication sector were ongoing.
Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer Yasir Azman noted a positive shift in the telecommunication sector’s office environment, where open communication and feedback are now possible, marking a significant improvement. Robi Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Sethi remarked on the creation of various commission-based layers over the past 15 years, which have impacted mobile phone operators’ profitability.
Robi Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahed Alam, Grameenphone Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Tanveer Mohammad, and other officials attended the separate meetings.
