Sylhet: Opposition Chief Whip and National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has called on party leaders and activists to prepare for the forthcoming local government elections. He emphasized the need for the party to enter the electoral battle with full strength and precision, highlighting the importance of avoiding any mistakes in the process.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Nahid made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at an iftar event organized by the party at a community center in Sylhet. He alleged that politicization is occurring within various government offices, with ruling party leaders being appointed as administrators in different city corporations. Nahid stressed that if the NCP is elected to parliament, they will question these practices from a position of accountability.

During the program, Sarjis Alam, the party’s chief organizer for the northern region, criticized the recent India visit by the newly appointed DGFI chief. Sarjis acknowledged that while some government actions are commendable, future instances of politicization and corruption will not be tolerated. He stated that the country is undergoing a democratic transition following the acceptance of election results but cautioned against any attempts to influence the upcoming local polls through engineering or manipulation of polling centers.

Additionally, Sarjis warned the government against providing refuge to individuals he described as proven associates of fascism and opponents of the July movement, asserting that no signs of fascism will exist in Bangladesh under their watch. Party leaders also pledged to organize street protests if the July Charter ordinance is not implemented or if the President is not impeached. The iftar event was attended by leaders from BNP, Jamaat, and other political parties.
