Rangamati: National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today announced his party’s intention to draft a new constitution aimed at upholding the dignity of all citizens, transcending divisions and differences. “We want a national consensus to abolish the Mujibad constitution and formulate a new democratic charter that guarantees the rights of people from both the hills and the plains,” Nahid stated during a street rally held in front of Banarupa CNG Station in the town.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid emphasized the NCP’s desire to establish a state system that embraces various ethnic groups, languages, and cultures. He highlighted the necessity of eliminating discrimination in terms of citizens’ rights and dignity, asserting that a new constitution is essential for this transformation.
The rally, which drew significant attention, featured a welcome address by NCP’s Rangamati district chief coordinator, Bipin Jyoti Chakma. Other prominent figures, including NCP senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin, Dr. Tasneem Zara, chief organizer of the northern region Sarjis Alam, and chief organizer of the southern region Hasnat Abdullah, also spoke at the event.
Notable attendees included NCP Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari, and NCP leaders SM Shuja Uddin and Rubaiya Shreshtra Tangchangya. Earlier in the day, NCP leaders addressed separate street rallies in the Betbunia, Ghagra, and Ranirhat Bazar areas before arriving in Rangamati town in the afternoon.
