Mymensingh:A court in Mymensingh has granted bail to Sathi Akter, who was arrested following her criticism of the government during a Facebook Live session. The arrest took place on October 25 in Bhaluka upazila, amid protests by local BNP leaders and activists.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Judge Sajidul Islam of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Mymensingh approved her bail on Wednesday on a bond of Tk 500. Court Inspector Mostasinur Rahman confirmed that Sathi was released from jail following the court's decision.
Sathi was brought to the court around 1230pm, where Lawyer Mahtab Uddin Ahmed represented her. The arrest occurred after she went live twice on Facebook on October 25 using an account named 'Sathi Makeover.' In the videos, she expressed frustration over the theft of electrical wires from her business premises and mentioned her regret for having voted for the BNP. Her statements led to local BNP leaders and activists demanding 'justice' outside her business.
Following the viral spread of the videos and the subsequent protest, police detained Sathi around 830pm and later arrested her under Section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. She was presented before the court the next day. Sathi operates a business named 'Sathi Beauty Parlour' located at Khadija Palace Market in the Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka upazila.
