Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said her biggest joy has been to see smile on the face of the destitute people after receiving free house and land from the government.
“It was my father’s dream (to provide home to the homeless people), that’s why I can’t hold back the tears of joy when they become happy,” she told the House.
The prime minister was responding to a question from Jatiya Party MP Fakhrul Imam (Mymensingh-8} during PM’s question-answer session.
The Leader of the House said that it has been the happiest moment of her life to bring smile on the faces of people who have nothing.
“This the most precious moment of my life and nothing is like that,” she said.
Hasina said that many people in the country have no land, house and address, and for that reason Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had taken initiative to give them land and house free of cost.
She said, Bangabandhu ordered that no one can own more than 100 bighas of land so the surplus land could be given to the landless people.
.
She added that Bangabandhu had also started work to provide houses by developing clustered villages.
“My only job is to implement the dream of Father of the Nation and improve the living standard of common people,” she said.
She mentioned that following Bangabandhu’s footsteps she has been gifting houses to landless and homeless people since 1996.
