Dhaka: Despite a mediocre bowling performance in the second T20 International against Afghanistan yesterday, Mustafizur Rahman entered into a record book with a significant achievement. Mustafizur went wicket-less after conceding 40 runs in four overs in the match, which Bangladesh eventually won by two wickets to confirm the three-match series.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during his bowling, Mustafizur bowled seven dot balls, making him the bowler with the most dot balls in T20 cricket. In T20 cricket, each dot ball holds immense value, and Mustafizur has now become the bowler who has delivered the most dot balls in T20 internationals. During the match, it was posted on his Facebook that the record for bowling the most dot balls in international T20s is now held by Mustafizur Rahman with 1142 dot balls.
Mustafizur has bowled in 120 innings, and out of his 2616 valid deliveries, 1142 were dot deliveries, which accounts for 43.65 percent, meaning the batters were not able to score runs in those deliveries. He has conceded a total of 3195 runs. Tim Southee, the former New Zealand pacer, follows Mustafizur with 1138 dots, and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan follows with 1078 dot deliveries. England’s Adil Rashid and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan are also high on the list.
Among the bowlers, Mustafizur, Southee, and Shakib are the only three to have bowled more than 1,000 dot deliveries. Adil Rashid has bowled 988 dots, while Rashid Khan has delivered 984 dots. Taskin Ahmed from Bangladesh is in 11th place with 838 dots in 81 innings, maintaining almost half the balls (47.74 percent) as dot deliveries.
Rashid Khan has conceded the fewest sixes among the top five bowlers who have bowled the most dots, with 82 sixes.
