Dhaka:Bangladesh faced a potential setback as key player Mushfiqur Rahim sustained a hand injury during a practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The incident occurred on the eve of the opening Test against the West Indies.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mushfiqur was injured while batting in the nets and received immediate medical attention from the team physiotherapist. Ice was applied to the injured area, and the veteran batter subsequently left the practice session without resuming his training.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto provided a measure of relief by stating that there was no indication the injury would prevent Mushfiqur from participating in the opening Test. "He is fine so far. I haven't heard anything suggesting that he won't be able to play or that there is any such problem," Shanto mentioned at the pre-match conference.

The full extent of Mushfiqur's injury and his availability for the match remain unconfirmed. Bangladesh is set to face the West Indies in the first of a two-match Test series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. This series is part of the World Test Championship, with Bangladesh currently positioned fourth in the standings, vying for a spot in the final.

Bangladesh aims to rebound from a lackluster performance in the recent tri-nation ODI series in the United Arab Emirates, seeking to make an impact in the longer format.
