Mourning Day Observed in Magura to Mark ‘July Martyrs’ Day’

Magura: Mourning Day was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country today, marking ‘July Martyrs’ Day’. A discussion and remembrance meeting was held in memory of the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement at the initiative of the Magura Sadar Upazila Administration.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hasibul Hasan presided over the meeting, which was held at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium at 11 am. Deputy Commissioner Md. Ahidul Islam was present as the chief guest. The meeting saw the attendance of family members of the martyrs, leaders of the anti-discrimination movement, and officers and employees from various government and private departments.



The speakers at the event emphasized that the nation would never forget the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives during the anti-discrimination student movement. The deputy commissioner highlighted that the mass uprising in Magura on July 36 (August 5) resulted in the martyrdom of 10 people in the district, with four being residents of Magura Sadar.



The state has already taken steps to support the families of the martyrs. In the first phase, financial assistance has been provided, and savings certificates worth Taka 10 lakh have been issued to each family in the second phase. The deputy commissioner also mentioned that the process of providing regular monthly allowances to the injured and families of the martyred is underway.



Following the discussion, special prayers were held for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs.
