Khulna: The 'Mosquito Eradication Week-2026' commenced at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) today, aiming to prevent mosquito-borne diseases and ensure a healthy living environment on campus. KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud officially inaugurated the week-long event on Thursday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the inauguration, the vice-chancellor emphasized the necessity of regular mosquito-control and cleanliness initiatives. He highlighted the importance of active participation from teachers, officers, employees, and students to effectively prevent mosquito-borne diseases. Dr. Masud encouraged collective efforts to maintain cleanliness across the campus and eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
The programme is scheduled from September 17 to 23 and will focus on various areas of the campus, including residential halls, academic and administrative buildings, roads, drains, and waterlogged zones. The initiative will involve intensified mosquito-control measures and cleaning activities to ensure the campus remains mosquito-free, clean, and healthy.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf, chairman of the university's Security Committee and dean of the Faculty of Science and Humanities, also addressed the gathering. He reiterated the need for ongoing mosquito-control operations and cleanliness maintenance across different campus locations to combat mosquito-borne diseases.
The event was attended by deans of various faculties, directors of institutes, acting registrar, department heads, directors, branch heads, along with teachers, officers, and employees of the university.
