Lalmonirhat: A significant initiative to safeguard roadside trees was launched today in Lalmonirhat as part of the nationwide ‘Tree Protection Programme’ by the Social Forest Department of Rangpur. Additional District Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman inaugurated the month-long program aimed at removing signboards and pins that are damaging roadside trees.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahbubur Rahman addressed the event, emphasizing the harmful effects of advertising materials on roadside trees. He pointed out that the practice of attaching billboards, festoons, and banners to trees using pins is on the rise, posing risks to these trees and exacerbating the negative impacts of climate change on daily life.
As a key component of the initiative, signboards and pins embedded in trees across various locations in Lalmonirhat have been removed. An awareness campaign has also been launched to deter the future placement of signboards using pins on trees within the district.
The event was attended by Assistant Conservator of Forests (Social Forest Division) of Kurigram Mohammad Rashid Arif and acting officer of Lalmonirhat Nursery and Training Center, Anisur Rahman, among others.
