Monpura: Hawaii Beach, located in Monpura upazila, an isolated landscape from the mainland of Bhola district, is becoming a popular tourist destination as travelers can enjoy both sunset and sunrise apart from being amazed by the stunning natural beauty of the coastline.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hawaii Beach stretches over one kilometer and is awakened by the waves at the confluence of the Meghna and the Bay of Bengal. Along with the greenery in the mangrove forest, it is filled with the walks of majestic deer and the chirping of birds throughout the year.
The beach looks so panoramic as if nature has arranged the seashore in its own way, much to captivate anyone's eyes. The enfolding of the blue sky and the waves of the sea makes the beach divergent from other seashores of the country, such as Kuakata and Cox's Bazar. It is rare for any tourist to simultaneously enjoy the blue sky, water, mangrove forest, deer, birds, and the wonderful view of sunrise and sunset together, but if anyone goes to the beach, they will be able to enjoy such beauty altogether.
The locals have named the beach 'Dakhina Hawaii Sea Beach,' located at Rahmanpur village under Dakshin Sakuchia union in the southernmost part of Monpura upazila. With a hope to have a glimpse at the stunning natural beauty, thousands of tourists visit the seashore every day.
Abu Jafar, a tourist from Dhaka, said, "We are only aware of Cox's Bazar, Kuakata, Sajek, and Jaflong, but many beautiful places in the southern parts of the country still remain untapped." He added that Monpura Hawaii Sea Beach is one of those and expressed his fascination with the unique landscape of the coastline. Another tourist, Abul Hasnat from Chattogram, remarked about the captivating beauty of South Hawaii Beach, noting its heart-touching and unique nature.
Visitors can reach Monpura by launch from Dhaka's Sadarghat, with fares ranging from Tk 350 to 1,200. Alternatively, they can travel by bus to Sea Truck Ghat and then take a vessel to the island's beach. During the winter season, the calm river allows access by speedboat. From Bhedauria in Bhola, tourists can also take a bus to Char Fasson Launch Ghat and then proceed directly to Dakhina Hawa Beach via Janata Ghat in Monpura.
While there are no accommodation facilities adjacent to the beach, Monpura district town offers Dak Bungalows and a modern residential hotel built on private initiative. The beach is accessible by auto-rickshaw and rented motorcycle from Monpura Sadar. Local restaurants offer delicious foods such as winter duck, fresh Hilsa, Rupsi fish, and yogurt, with prices lower than other tourist destinations.
Local individuals involved in tourism expressed to BSS the importance of government attention in building infrastructure to benefit the tourism sector. They believe that government patronage could significantly expand the tourism industry. Kabi Simanto Helal, General Secretary of Monpura Press Club, highlighted issues of financial misuse during the previous government's tenure but expressed optimism for a new era in tourism post the July-August Revolution. Bhola Deputy Commissioner Md. Azad Jahan affirmed that the government's future master plan for Bhola's tourism industry will bring delight to the people.
