Cumilla: Monirul Haque Chowdhury, Parliament Member for Cumilla-6 constituency, today stressed the need for a coordinated initiative to address congestion, waterlogging, and unplanned urbanisation in Cumilla. “The deteriorated city could be revived through joint efforts of the City Corporation, Roads and Highways Department, and Water Development Board,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with City Corporation officials here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chowdhury emphasized the importance of honouring his campaign promises, which included addressing the issue of damaged roads that he observed during his election campaign. He expressed his commitment to fulfilling these promises through concrete actions.
Chowdhury also revealed plans to extend the boundary of the City Corporation, with procedures set to begin right after Eid. He highlighted the urgency of forming a Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and urged the City Corporation to submit an official proposal, even suggesting the formation under curfew if necessary.
Additionally, he issued a warning against those involved in soil cutting from the Gomoti River. Chowdhury called for the reactivation of the South Cumilla-North Noakhali irrigation project, aiming to mitigate waterlogging in the area.
