Dhaka: Former footballer Saifur Rahman Moni has been elected as the 15th executive member of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), following a closely contested re-election against Chudanga District Sports Association President Ekhlas Uddin. The re-election, held at BFF Bhaban, saw Moni secure 56 votes compared to Uddin's 51, as announced by chief election commissioner Mezbah Uddin Ahmed at a press conference. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the voting process took place between 11 am and 1 pm, with 107 out of 133 delegates participating to fill the final spot on the 15-member BFF executive committee. The need for a re-election arose after the initial election on October 26 ended in a tie, with both Moni and Ekhlas Uddin receiving 61 votes for the coveted position. The BFF executive committee, in its first meeting, resolved to hold a re-election to break the deadlock. Moni, who had previously contested in two BFF elections without success, expressed his relief and gratitude to his supporters after his victory. "Finally, I won in the election after the fourth attempt and all this credit goes to my delegates ... I am really grateful to them," Moni shared with the press. Moni also conveyed his aspirations to contribute to the development of football in Bangladesh, emphasizing his commitment to the sport's growth and enhancement.
