Mohammed Aminur Rashid: A Pillar in Bangladesh’s Political and Industrial Landscape

Dhaka: Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid is a prominent politician, industrialist, and exporter who has made significant contributions to industry, trade, agriculture, and public service in Bangladesh. Born on January 23, 1958, in Cumilla District, Rashid comes from a respected Muslim family. He is the son of Ali Mia and Amena Begum and has built a reputation as a visionary leader with strong business acumen and a commitment to social responsibility.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rashid has long been associated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), where he is recognized as a dedicated and capable organizer. He currently serves as a member of the party Chairman’s Advisory Council and has held several important positions within the party, including Member of the National Executive Committee from 2001 to 2009, Joint Secretary for Agriculture Affairs from 2010 to 2016, and Relief and Rehabilitation Affairs Secretary from 2016 to 2025. Additionally, he served as General Secretary from 2009 to 2022 and later as Convener of the Cumilla South District BNP from 2022 to 2025.



In his parliamentary career, Rashid was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Cumilla-9 (Sadar South-Lalmai) constituency in the 6th National Parliamentary Election. He also contested the 2008 and 2018 national elections from the Cumilla-6 constituency as a BNP nominee. His governance experience and competence have led to key ministerial responsibilities, currently serving as Minister of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Ministry of Agriculture.



Beyond politics, Rashid is a pioneering entrepreneur in Bangladesh’s footwear industry. He served as Chairman of Lalmai Group, leading the group to domestic and international expansion. His enterprises have received the National Export Trophy (Gold and Silver) 12 times, and he was named a Commercially Important Person (CIP) 13 times. His companies have also been recognized four times among the country’s top taxpayers.



Rashid held leadership roles in several companies, including Lalmai Footwear Limited, Arku Industries Manufacturing Limited, Baby Nutrition Limited, Lalmai Food Products, Organic Nutrition Limited, and Arku Foods Limited. His investments in the food and nutrition sectors have contributed to ensuring safe and healthy food production in the country.



Rashid has also contributed to social welfare and women’s education. The Barapara Amena Begum Girls’ High School, established by him in Sadar South Upazila of Cumilla, plays an important role in promoting girls’ education in the area. To promote export trade, he has traveled extensively to countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, China, and Japan, as well as various nations in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.



Through participation in international conferences, seminars, trade fairs, and investment summits, he has actively promoted Bangladeshi products in global markets. In his personal life, he is married to Musammat Tahmina Akter, and they have two sons, Iftekhar Rashid and Enayet Rashid.
