Dhaka: Meteorological department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall over Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rangpur, and Chattogram divisions and the adjoining upstream areas during the next three days.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a low-pressure system has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-North Odisha coastal areas, which is expected to move west-northwestwards. Despite the current situation where all major rivers across the country are flowing below the Danger Level, there have been notable changes in water levels in certain regions.
During the last 24 hours, the water level of the Manu, Dhalai, and Khowai rivers in the northeastern Sylhet division has risen. The report indicates that these water levels may continue to rise over the next 24 hours and remain steady for the subsequent two days. The Manu, Phafai, and Khowai rivers are predicted to flow above the danger level at Rabiganj and Moulvibazar districts during this period.
Additionally, the water levels of the Gomti, Muhuri, Selonia, and Feni rivers in the eastern and southeastern Chattogram divisions have also shown an increase over the last 24 hours. These levels are expected to rise rapidly over the next 24 hours and then fall on the third day.
Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra-Jamuna basin has remained steady over the past 24 hours, with an expected rise in water levels anticipated in four days. Similarly, the Surma-Kushiyara basin in the northeastern region has seen rising water levels over the past 24 hours, a trend expected to continue for the next three days.
