Durgapur: A mobile court operation was conducted by the Upazila Administration in Alipur Bazar of Durgapur upazila in the district following allegations of selling fuel oil at higher-than-approved prices. The operation, carried out on Saturday, was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Laila Noor Tanju.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the drive, 500 liters of illegally stockpiled fuel oil were recovered from a shop. The seized oil was immediately sold to general consumers present at government-fixed prices. A case was filed under Section 40 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, and a fine of Taka 30,000 was imposed.

After the operation, the Executive Magistrate stated that the drive was conducted based on reports that some unscrupulous traders were creating artificial shortages and selling oil at inflated prices. She warned that no leniency would be shown to those violating government directives or overcharging consumers, adding that such strict drives in the public interest would continue. At the time, local consumers praised the administration’s prompt action and requested stronger market monitoring measures.
