Thakurgaon: Mirza Ruhul Amin memorial T20 cricket tournament was inaugurated through a ceremony at Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium today. Thakurgaon additional district magistrate Sordar Mostafa Shaheen formally inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest by releasing balloons.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Thakurgaon district BNP leaders Shoriful Islam, Mamun Ur Rashid, and Noor-a-Shahadat Swajan were present at the inauguration ceremony. On the first day of the tournament, Thakurgaon Youth Club faced off against Dinajpur Dominators.
A total of 16 district teams, including teams from Dhaka, Rajshahi, and Pabna, are participating in the tournament. Mirza Ruhul Amin, also known as Chokha Mia, was a notable leader in Thakurgaon, remembered for his contributions as a former minister and the architect of modern Thakurgaon.
Mirza Ruhul Amin was also the father of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and BNP central leader and former municipal mayor Mirza Faisal Amin. He was the father-in-law of former army chief Lt. General Mahbubur Rahman.
