Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called upon party activists not to be misled by his 'misinterpreted remarks' over harassment cases.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alamgir issued a clarification stating that during his electioneering at a union in his constituency, he mentioned, "we don't believe in politics of vengeance (and) we do not want to file cases for harassment like that of Awami League."

In his statement, Alamgir also noted, "if any harassment case is lodged against anyone in this union, we will withdraw them," emphasizing that his comments were specific to that particular union.

However, he clarified that he did not make any statement regarding the filing or withdrawal of harassment cases across the country. Alamgir urged people and BNP activists at all levels not to be confused by any incorrect statements published in the media.
