Thakurgaon: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged political factions to avoid creating divisions over referendum and proportionate representation (PR), advocating instead for the prompt execution of the forthcoming election to protect the citizens.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized the importance of holding the election swiftly, as he addressed residents of Thakurgaon-1 at Goreya Union Parishad. He appealed to all political parties to refrain from inciting divisions or movements regarding referendum and PR, suggesting that these matters could be debated in the next parliament.
The BNP leader expressed concern about those protesting these issues on the streets, implying their intentions are disruptive to the election process. He called for comprehensive cooperation to facilitate the election, urging all to support the casting of votes and the establishment of an elected parliament where these topics can be addressed.
Reiterating his party’s pledge, Mirza Fakhrul assured the creation of one crore jobs and stressed the BNP’s commitment to avoiding vindictive politics. He highlighted the need for unity among all communities, including Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, and Christian, to prevent further division and damage.
He reminded the audience of the collective effort to build the nation in a harmonious manner, underscoring the need for a united front as the election approaches. He affirmed that the upcoming election will provide citizens the opportunity to select their preferred representatives without division.
Mirza Fakhrul also mentioned the anticipated signing of the July Charter, which aims to reform national politics. He explained that the charter, likened to installing a metal tin in a house, seeks to hinge the political landscape and that reforms will be implemented as per agreed proposals, with non-agreed matters being presented to the populace for support.
Since Tuesday, Mirza Fakhrul has been actively engaging with constituents to rally support for the BNP’s electoral symbol, the Sheaf of Paddy, in the upcoming general election. The event saw the presence of Thakurgaon district BNP General Secretary Poigam Ali, Sadar Upazila General Secretary Mahbub Hossain Tuhin, and numerous BNP leaders and activists.
