Singapore: BNP Standing Committee member and political adviser to the Prime Minister Mirza Abbas has been shifted to a cabin from the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Singapore General Hospital after 19 days under close medical observation. BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam confirmed that Mirza Abbas’s condition has shown some improvement.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr Rafiqul stated, “I spoke to his wife Afroza Abbas this morning. His condition is gradually improving. He has been moved from the ICU to a cabin today.” Dr Rafiqul further explained that doctors will continue advanced physiotherapy in the cabin, as Mirza Abbas underwent a complex brain surgery. “His treatment is still going on under close medical supervision and will need to continue,” Dr Rafiqul added.
Mirza Abbas was initially flown to Singapore General Hospital by air ambulance on March 15 from a hospital in Dhaka, where he was undergoing treatment. On March 11, he fell unconscious during iftar and was admitted to Evercare Hospital. A medical board, comprising leading neurologists of the country, was formed, and based on its decision, he underwent emergency brain surgery. Subsequently, he was taken to Singapore within 72 hours for further treatment.
