Dhaka: The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has issued a directive to all its departments, urging them to eliminate the category system in listing new contractors. This move is aimed at expediting procurement and service activities while ensuring transparency in the process.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ministry has instructed the concerned departments to refrain from using the traditional category system, such as A, B, and C classifications, in the contractor listing process. Instead, actions should be taken in accordance with the Public Procurement Rules (PPR) of 2008. This directive was communicated through a ministry press release.
The departments targeted by this instruction include the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), National Housing Authority, Urban Development Directorate (UDD), Department of Public Works, Department of Architecture, and several development authorities, including those in Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Cox’s Bazar. Additionally, the Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI), Directorate of Government Housing, and Directorate of Internal Audit are also required to comply with the new directive.
