Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu MP has emphasized the importance of environmental conservation by urging every citizen to pledge to plant at least one tree. He believes this initiative will significantly contribute to protecting the environment and ensuring a sustainable ecological future. "If each of us plants one tree, then the dream of greening the country will become a reality," he stated during his speech as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 10-day-long 'Lalmonirhat District Tree Fair-2026' at the Lalmonirhat Collectorate grounds.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was presided over by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rashedul Haque Prodhan. The minister highlighted that trees not only maintain environmental balance but also ensure the long-term welfare of individuals, society, and future generations. He expressed concern over the ignorance and irresponsible behavior of some people regarding environmental conservation, noting that trees planted for beautification purposes are often destroyed due to carelessness, negligence, or destructive activities.
Minister Dulu described such activities as threats to the environment and emphasized the need for necessary protective measures to safeguard newly planted trees. He announced plans to distribute saplings to students in various educational institutions in the district to encourage private nursery owners. Additionally, he assured the allocation of space for the nursery owners' association in Lalmonirhat district town.
The minister called on government and private institutions, voluntary organizations, and the general public to collaborate in implementing the government's ambitious 25-crore tree plantation programme over five years across the country. Special guests at the event included Lalmonirhat Zilla Parishad Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Superintendent of Police Md Asaduzzaman, Principal of Lalmonirhat Government College Professor Abu Imam Md Rashedunnabi, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Dr Md Shaikhul Arefin, and Divisional Forest Officer of Rangpur Social Forestry Division Md Nurul Islam.
The event saw the presence of government officials, nursery owners, teachers, students, and media personnel. The fair features 30 stalls displaying and selling saplings of various species of forest, fruit, and medicinal plants to visitors. It will be open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm daily.
Following the fair's inauguration, Minister Dulu inspected various ongoing development projects in the district and participated in the evaluation meeting of the 'Alokita Lalmonirhat' programme at the new auditorium of the Lalmonirhat Zilla Parishad.
