Sylhet: Youth and Sports State Minister Md Aminul Haque today announced that the construction of mini stadiums is progressing in 201 upazilas across the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister revealed that while a mini stadium was initially planned for South Surma upazila in Sylhet, the government has decided to construct a full-fledged stadium there instead. This decision was disclosed during the minister's visit to inspect potential sites for the proposed stadium in South Surma.
The minister mentioned that three potential sites had been examined, and a final selection would be made based on the convenience for local residents. A Development Project Proposal (DPP) would be promptly prepared following the site selection. Haque emphasized the government's initiative to construct mini stadiums in every upazila, with work currently active in 201 locations.
He further noted that some projects have reached completion, while others are in various stages of construction. Certain projects are pending land acquisition, and construction will commence once this process is finalized. Regarding the South Surma stadium, the minister highlighted the importance of selecting a site that ensures easy access for spectators and provides adequate facilities for players. The aim is to facilitate convenient attendance at sporting events and enhance the spectator experience with proper gallery facilities.
